Conclusion

In Australia today the need to create alternative pathways that bring people together to rediscover that yearning for community is paramount. This chapter has described an experiment in community leadership training that seeks to do just that. The BBC training has been able to actualise the idea that change can be seeded by groups of people committed to what Gandhi so poetically phrased as ‘experimenting with truth’. As a form of community-based education and training the BBC courses are an expression of working from the inside out as each course is only as effective as the individuals who collectively participate. The more that we understand that individually and collectively we are the social change that is required, the closer we will get to achieving the change we desire.
